“Views From the Snap”

drake-blogSo as most of us are aware, Drake announced his UK tour dates about a week agoooo! His tour dates for his “Boy Meets World” tour are set to go ahead from January 26th to February 23rd in the new year in Glasgow, London, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham.

Tickets went on sale at 9am on the 14th October via Ticketmaster, and other major outlets including Ticket Factory, StubHub and GetMeIn. O2 Priority members got that Hotline Bling with priority ticket access the day before.

BUT! There are still tickets available on Ticketmaster’s partner site – GetMeIn. That is, if you’re willing to pay £80 … for tier 4 …

So why are the tickets so expensive?

That is a question we would love to ask Drake himself.

One line of argument is that as music is so easily accessible these days because of sites such as Soundcloud that allow you to stream music for free, this is likely to have a large dent in terms of income from music sales. Following this thought process; it makes sense why Drake would charge such a large fee for his concerts as it means that a fixed figure of income is guaranteed.

However on the flipside, will the price breakdown lead to exclusion? Let’s be honest, not everyone can afford to go. Could Drake be excluding some of his most loyal fans from catching some of the action? Is £100+ REALLY justifiable?

Will Drake be able to hold on to his fan base?

It is interesting that tickets sold out within minutes, but immediately there were tickets available above face value on GetMeIn. Hmmm. Is that a coincidence or a clever marketing ploy?

Prices went from 0 – 100 real quick … literally.

Is this fair? Is there a solution? Is this the cost of being Successful?

The reality of it all though is that some fans will pay, and they clearly have – If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, he has already sold out 8 London dates.

Personally, as a Drake fan – I do admire him, but I’m not willing to pay £100 to see him live. I’ll just enjoy my views from the snap.

Just hold on, I’ll stay at home.

Take Care
