Mental Health in the Music Industry
The recent death of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington seems to echo a rise in high profile artists, celebrities and musicians opening up about their struggles with mental health.
The independent UK charity “Help Musicians” has been raising awareness on the subject for some time now and has recently launched ‘Music Minds Matter’, an initiative aimed in supporting musicians dealing with mental health issues across all music genres from those just starting out to those in retirement.
Their research found that musicians are three times more likely to suffer from mental health issues, depression or anxiety than those in other professions.
Music Minds has the support of famous musicians who are open about their struggles with mental health in diminishing the stigma attached to these conditions and supporting musicians with the resources to aid their issues.
