2014 was definitely one to be remembered for all the right reasons in the UK, just as the music scene proved in the official UK album chart!
For the first time ever, British acts managed to fill and totally dominate the top 10 best-selling artist albums last year. Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ took the all-important #1 spot. He sold 1.7 million copies, the biggest one-year total since Adele’s ‘21’ 3 years ago. Our very own Sam Smith was in position #2 with album ‘In The Lonely Hour’ taking the UK by storm in 2014. George Ezra and Coldplay were also in the top five and pop boyband One Direction failed to disappoint with ‘Four’ at position 7 (no surprise with all those fans!!). An increase in music streaming has also pushed UK sales to more than £1bn, which is definitely something to boast about. With such great news, we look forward to 2015 and expect big things to continue flowing out of the British music industry from this point on!
