Best MOBO Award Newcomers

With this range of amazing nominees for the ‘BEST NEWCOMER’ category of MOBO Awards 2017, I’m sure you’re struggling to decide who you want to vote for.

Below we’ll be talking about some of the artists we believe should hold the title.

Kicking it off with Santan Dave, who first debuted on Street Starz back in 2015 and then progressed to BlackBox later on in that same year. A year later (2016) he did his first “Fire in the Booth” freestyle on Charlie Sloth’s show on BBC Radio 1 Xtra. A few months down the line Drake had made a remix of Dave’s song “Wanna Know” and featured on it.

Not3s, pronounced ‘Notes’ has also had a speedy come up. With his first single ‘Addison Lee’ only being released at the end of 2016, he’s done well! He has now got over 7 million views on the ‘Addison Lee’ music video on YouTube and over 13 million views on the ‘Aladdin’ music video, which was released in June this year.

Jorja Smith is a favourite in the Small Green Shoots office; her first song “Blue Lights” was released on SoundCloud in January 2016. Similarly to Dave, Jorja has also impressed Drake as he had her supporting his Birmingham and London show during his UK tour. She featured twice on Drake’s recent album “More Life” in “Jorja interlude” and “Get it Together”, which sampled “Superman” by Black Coffee ft. Bucie.

With Jorja being 20 and both Dave and Not3s only being 19, I’m sure it’s safe to highlight how much they have achieved for their age. It is also evident that as the music industry has evolved, social media has become interlinked, be it YouTube, Instagram, Twitter or Snapchat. Social Media is the key to success!
