Mercury Music Prize Award
Rock Music is Not Dead! Well not when it comes in the shape of “Wolf Alice”, a brilliant band whose rock brand consists of romance, synth-pop, grunge and ethereal lyrics…..
A worthy, if unexpected winner of this years Mercury Prize Award.
We love the Mercury’s. Unlike other Awards, it surprises and introduces us to something new. It’s diverse and about the album as an entire piece of work, something often forgotten in our “download the best 2 tracks” generation.
Other artists/groups that were shortlisted for this year’s Award include Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Lily Allen, Jazz group “Sons of Kemet” our own “Jorja Smith”, Florence & The Machine (Again), Novelist and the Arctic Monkeys.
Lily Allen cried when she lost out, but that just showed her honesty. (It’s crap to loose and with cameras all focused on your reaction it must be hard to feign jubilation for the winners!) and Nadine Shah pointed out that artists could be making more political music to reflect the times.
Annie Mac, we are coming to the Apollo to bag our own seats next year!
