Last week we kick started the first of our Small Green Shoots, Hall One Sessions with the lovely Mahalia.

We are going to be showcasing the UK’s finest fresh talent in one of the most supreme acoustic halls in Europe. Big Up KingsPlace for granting us access!

It was Mahalia’s Dad that first sent Small Green Shoots her music and we were totally mesmerized by the pure emotion in her voice, let alone realizing she is just 13 years old! We added a little SGS rain and sunshine and have since been watching Mahalia grow.

Lonely Are The Brave

Lonely are the Brave comes in at No2 In the Official Charts!!!

It’s been a non stop year for Maverick of Writing, Touring & Promoting and Small Green Shoots have closely been following and supporting his career (and supplying creates of Guinness) from the very early days! Since getting a taster of the Album at Mavericks KoKo gig in October, we have been excited for the release – Its great to see everyone else enjoying and supporting good music also!

It’s an Album full of honest, heart-felt stories that should be in everyone’s music collection.

“MOSHI, MOSHI RECORDS PRESENTS…”

Jazz Cafe is not necessarily the venue where you would assume a innovative, cutting edge rock, electronic/pop, indie and simply just cutting edge music would perform. You would expect the Jill Scotts, Jazzanova’s, the Dwele’s and obviously UK’s premier soul supremo Omar. Move over Jazz fans, time for a different groundbreaker of genres to pack the place and believe me, it was full to it’s capacity. HMV are holding a festival with the various Mama Group venues “HMV’s NEXT BIGTHING”.

I simply wouldn’t be able to box these artists as they really stick out like a sore thumb from the ‘norm’. However, I was quite surprised the venue was packed, maybe due to my naivety, Moshi Moshi Records the average Joe wouldn’t have the slightest of this label, but I must say… They are AMAZING and REFRESHING!

The roster of bands that performed; Tom Williams & The Boat, Fiction, Two Wounded Birds and the Psychologists. Fiction were fun to watch. I thought one of the band members who was every kitchen apparatus was clever. He used an empty water tank bottle as percussion for one of their tracks, that was interesting to watch. Lastly, Tom Williams & The Boat had a very upbeat set which got my foot stomping. The female violinist was refreshing to see but my attention went to the lead, I just liked his haircut! Random, I know.

Moshi Moshi have really come a long way from 4 years ago and this is what the public should be rightfully exposed to. Groundbreaking talent, and a label like Moshi Moshi do it exceptionally well.

Small Green Shoots are on the board for British @ Midem, so over the last few months we have been planning, designing and preparing for the big weekender!
As part of our facilitation work we offered Hamish Harris & Austin Daboh a Small Green Pass for the weekend!

Hamish runs a talent management company called Twist Management and looks after artists such as Zernell Fontaine, Tyson and our very own Small Green Shoot, Jamie Woon.

Last week Natsx attended the Event Production Awards held at the Hilton, Park Lane hotel! A lovely affair that celebrated the excellence and innovation in today’s event industry.

I AM DV8

Last Friday I went to check out the “I am DV8” show that some of the students from dv8 training were putting together in Stratford circus. Being a previous dv8 student myself for the past 3 years, I make it a commitment to attend the show every year and to support, and keep up with what they’ve been getting up to! This year was another successful show with special guests such as; NY, Ghetto, Sound boy and Kele La Roc. There were some really impressive talent and I was particular impressed by a group called Timeless. The fashion show and game show was also funny and entertaining to watch. It was nice to see that dv8 is still going strong and continues to provide opportunities for young people and help to promote their talents. Looking forward to next years!

Absorbing the sounds and attitudes of her urban environment, this petite 22 year old is an accomplished and furiously powerful vocalist who has carved her credibility on the live circuit, through battling and original wordplay.

Her onstage persona and vocal dexterity has led to critical support from industry insiders and fellow artists such from Mike Skinner to Nicky Minaj .

Lady Leshurr’s debut single ‘Lego’, (already receiving full support from BBC Radio 1 and 1 Xtra), was released by Gutter Strut Recordings November 2011.

BBC Introducing – Musicians Masterclass!

Small Green Shoots were invited down to the renowned Abbey Road Studios on Thursday evening to share our knowledge & participate in the BBC Introducing Networking evening. This annual event was a whole day of some of the industries biggest names sharing their experiences and advice to an army of budding musicians, singers and songwriters who expressed just as much drive as they did talent. In particular, check out spoken word artist G.R.E.Ed.S – @iamGREEdS & folk singer songwriter Kadija Kamara @KadijaKamara who we met on the evening and have been engaged in their music since.

The Jump Off Returns

The Jump Off, London’s biggest Hip Hop Entertainment night came back with a bang and was everything you would expect!
Fabric in Farringdon was packed out the notoriously critical audience that laughed as hard as they booed and it must have taken a lot more than guts for anyone to step foot on the Jump Off stage! Dj Manny Norte & 1xtra’s Charlie Sloth were running the DJ booth which consisted of more banter than bangers but never the less highly entertaining!! The Judge line up consisted of, Island A&R Benn Scars, Artistic Director at Flawless- Swoosh & Music Producer Dready who sat front row for the MC battles, Producer battles, Booty shaken wildness and Dance battles.
The MC battles weren’t up to the same standard that we have seen in the previous years but as it was the first session back, the talent is still warming up. The battles were made up of LnC – @LnCMusic, Villun – @VillunRaps, Ceezlin -@Ceezlin and Pamflit – @MCPamflit who taught the 800 crowd not to judge a book by its cover.
